Impressive 3D technology normally the preserve of high end commercial projects which lets people see how their new homes are going to look has won Bluelime architects an accolade in the Bexley Business Excellence Awards 2019.

The firm was highly commended for its use of computer-aided 3D design to show customers images of their new houses, extensions and renovations. It achieved highly commended status in the technological innovation category, given to “the business achieving the most stand-out accomplishment of the year in new technology.”

The awards are organised annually by Bexley council and Bexley For Business, an organisation set up to encourage business and investment in Bexley, and are judged by fellow business people. There were 147 entries this year, and more than 300 people attended last month's ceremony, held in the grounds of Tudor stately home Hall Place and Gardens, and hosted by Good Morning Britain presenter Michael Underwood. The Bluelime team use programs called AutoCAD Revit and Lumion at their head office in Erith to create 3D images for customers of their designs.

Glenn Williams, managing director of Bluelime Home Design, explained: “All of us love using the software, and our customers love it too. It's so exciting to be able to show them room by room how their home is going to look. When they see the photo-realistic designs on the computer, that's the moment when they realise their initial ideas and dreams are coming to life. a pretty awesome stage of the project.

“We also use videoconferencing a lot, so we can work on the designs with customers remotely, without them having to come into the office all the time – which makes it easy for them to have input into every detail. The future looks very exciting with VR likely to be our next introduction”

The other category finalists were Plum Innovations, which provides IT for London primary schools, recruitment agency Staffline, and CCTV company Taylor Technology Systems..

“We're pleased and proud to win this award as we work hard to make sure our customers are happy, and the way we use AutoCAD massively helps us to make sure we're designing what they want,” Glenn Williams added. “It's lovely to have that recognised and to be shortlisted alongside so many other businesses doing great work.”
