Including smart technology in your home renovation

In recent years, the inclusion of smart technology in people’s homes has become more and more common. We’re an age of digital lovers, so it’s far from surprising! Smart home technology can make your home living easier and optimise the function of your house and everything in it.

If you’re renovating your home, you might want to consider adding in some home automation that’ll bring your property into the modern world of technology.

Smart Home Technology Considerations

Before you begin to upgrade your home, consider what you need and the things you can do with home automation. With so many options, it pays to know what’s important to you and your family.

Think about where you spend the most time, for example if the living room or kitchen is the hub of your home. Consider where you think smart home technology could improve your productivity – if you spend a lot of time cooking, maybe some smart technology would allow you to multi-task to make the most of this time. You should also think about what you want in your home to improve the harmonious living amongst your family. For example, you may want to be better connected or you might want to keep home automation confined to one room if your kids are too tech-obsessed.

Now you’ve got some things to consider, let’s take a look at some home automation project ideas that might be of use to you.

Multi-Room Audio and Visuals

Multi-room audio is a pretty popular home technology addition. It allows you to play audio, such as music or podcasts, throughout your home. You can control it to play in different rooms and at different levels of volume in each room. You can do the same with multi-room visuals, allowing you to stream TV or online video across a variety of screens in your house.

Lighting

Another very popular form of smart home technology involves lighting. There are a ton of ways you can upgrade your lighting, from being able to operate it from a mobile device to automatic dimmers to help you save energy. You can even set your lighting on a timer whilst you’re away to keep your home safe.

Heating

Being able to control your heating is probably one of the most practical things you can do with home automation. You can use devices to control the temperature in each room, heating only the areas you’re using to the exact temperature you’re comfortable in, helping reduce wasted energy. You can also turn your heating on and off remotely, so if you forget to turn yours off when you leave the house it’s no problem!

Smart Meter

Smart Meters are a great way to keep track of the energy usage in your home. By linking them up to your electrical appliances, you can monitor the cost of what you use and how much energy each individual appliance relies on to run.
