New Build/Bungalow Conversion Designed By Bluelime

PLANNING AUTHORITY: Dartford Council

This site originally consisted of a raised Bungalow that was in serious need of repair. Our clients Kerri and Jamie wanted to create a new modern style dwelling consisting of a central glass feature. To start off, we made the entrance and glass feature the main focus of our design incorporating a galleried landing around the entrance hall. This creates a feeling of space and openness from the generously sized entrance area all the way to the roof above the first floor. To complement the large open space a chandelier was added.

The main challenge on the site was with the height. The site is located on rising land and the development of a tall building to replace an existing low-level bungalow meant that any nearby dwellings could be adversely affected. To remedy this Bluelime worked alongside the planners to keep the roof as low as possible while maintaining a functional loft area. To achieve this dormer windows were pushed out further and lower into the front roof.

The other main challenge was convincing the planners that technically it was not a new build when actually only a couple of walls of the original bungalow remained.
