New Build/Bungalow Conversion Designed By Bluelime

This site originally consisted of a raised Bungalow which was in serious need of repair. Our clients Kerri and Jamie wanted to create a new modern style dwelling consisting of a central glass feature. We made the entrance and glass feature the main focus of our design incorporating a galleried landing around the entrance hall creating a feeling of space and openness from the generously sized entrance area all the way to the roof above the first floor. Adding a chandelier to hang within this central gallery was an amazing final touch and complimented our unique design. The main challenge on the site was with the height. There were private dwellings behind that would have been adversely affected by a tall building on rising land replacing an existing low-level bungalow. So we had to work with the planners to keep the ridge line as low as possible  whilst still making use of the loft area. This meant having to set the dormer windows further forward and lower within the front elevation.  The other main challenge was convincing the planners that technically it was not a new build when actually only a couple of walls of the original bungalow remained.
