Here at Bluelime our top RIBA registered Architects have created many new bathrooms and en-suites over the years. From luxurious master bathrooms with balconies overlooking sea views to more modest en-suites where functionality is key. For more than 13 years we have created some amazing new bathrooms and en-suites throughout London and the South East. Take a look at some of our previous projects here.
Adding a bathroom or ensuite is one of the best ways to increase the desirability of your home. It has now become the norm to have at least two or three bathrooms per household. With children staying at home longer now, how we use our homes has changed. Providing additional bathrooms and en-suites will bring huge benefits to you and your family for many years to come.
Bluelime is now one of the leading RIBA chartered firms in bathroom design in London and the South East. Many of our design appointments (of which there are now over 400) have included additional bathrooms of some sort. This also normally involves reconfiguring the existing first floor space and adding sumptuous master en-suites.

Hints & Tips To Create The
Bathroom Perfect For You
It is always preferable to get ensuites and bathrooms on outside walls so you can get natural light from windows and drainage out of the property easily and down the outside wall. However with clever designing Bathrooms placed centrally in the property can still work. Drainage may have to be boxed in along a wall beneath. Always try to add a roof light if possible.

Swapping pedestal wash hand basins for basin units can provide much needed additional storage space in bathrooms and ensuites. They normally come integrated as a single product and provide a modern, clean look to any modern style bathroom or ensuite.

Replacing a shower tray with a laid to fall tiled shower floor can create a nice clean base to any shower. The glass simply sits on a channel fixed to the floor tiles. Make sure you use a purpose made waterproof marine grade plywood or mdf that directs water to a floor gully.

If you have the space (Normally 1800mm bathroom width) you can simply install a single solid piece of glass for the shower screen. You don’t actually need a shower door so long as the floor within the shower is laid to falls away from the entrance using the purpose made mdf/plywood floor mentioned above. Its in effect a wet room design without the rest of the room getting wet.

There is a huge range of towel radiators available that can add a nice little feature to any bathroom. Best to have them plumbed into the heating system preferably with an electrical over ride so that they can still be switched on in the summer, drying towels when you have the heating system off.

Without question using LED spotlights has now became the norm for any modern bathroom or ensuite. Getting spotlight positions correct is key and can be a challenge when dealing with small spaces, joist direction, shower enclosures and worktop luminance. Make sure your lighting designer marks out positioning before the holes are drilled as there is nothing worse than repaired spotlight holes in ceilings.

Quite often loft conversions are used for an additional Bedroom with this new Bedroom becoming the Master Bedroom and therefore really warranting an En-Suite. Means you don’t have to keep coming down the stairs to use the Bathroom. Lofts are perfect for En- Suites if you have the space and head height.

Free standing feature baths are a lovely addition to any bathroom. Plumbing to taps can either be integrated into the walls or on a nice modern chrome stand pipes alongside the bath. If burying pipes in the wall just make sure your plumber has fully tested for leaks before tiling over.

With everything hidden away wall taps provide a nice neat way of providing hot and cold water to the bath.
